People - Profiles

If you know Barbara or have met her you will will have been struck by her low key sardonic humour at the same time it is clear she has a mind that is brimming with ideas. To see her focusing on a series of hundreds of detailed illustrations for a school book that have to match closely with the written text and also adhere to the brief from the publisher and at the same time field requests from her boys padding in wet from a swim at the beach while she offers tea and biscuits to all comers   - the words muli-tasking seem inadequate.

Originally from Dublin she came to Allihies to escape the 'rat race' and, like many others, find the quiet life. It may seem that it has not quite turned out that way.

This weekend (June 26th – July 13th) sees her opening an exhibition at the Copper Cafe Art Museum in Allihies, one of a series of exhibitions running through the summer. (See our review of the opening)

She is sharing the space with Scottish born sculptor Alex Scade who has lived in the area for some time.

To coincide with the launch of the two week exhibition she has also launched a completely re-designed web site that show-cases her illustration, cartooning skills and her painting, If you click the link below you will see the new site has sections for her own skills and a separate area providing a selection of work of other locally based artists represented at the Sometimes Gallery.

June 26th – July 13th  -   Barbara Nolan +  Alex Scade at the Copper Cafe Art Museum. Season details here.
